The BJP staged a dharna in front of the Chhatrapur block office in Ganjam district on Sunday in protest against irregularities in issuance of ration card.
The party leaders alleged that a large number of poor people in the block are yet to receive ration cards. This reveals laxity on the part of the Government in proper implementation of the National Food Security Act.
“There has been large-scale irregularity in preparation of the ration card list at Chhatrapur. The list was made in haste and without holding of Palli Sabha for the interest of a few influential persons. For this, many genuine beneficiaries are excluded from the list,” said former Deputy Speaker of Assembly Rama Chandra Panda.
They later submitted a memorandum in the Block Office in this regard. Among others, party senior leaders Sudam Roul, Basant Behera and Shatrughna Mahakund joined the protest.
