Alleging misuse of Government machinery and money by the ruling BJD to win Kandhamal lok Sabha bypoll, the BJP has constituted a six-member committee to inquire into the role of the State administration and Asha and Anganawadi workers in it.

“The committee will probe the manner in which self-help groups (SHGs), Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs), workers of Anganwadi and Asha and others in the administration were engaged by the BJD to influence voters in Kandhamal,” a BJP release said on Tuesday.

After a thorough inquiry by the committee, headed by senior leader Samir Mohanty, the State BJP would submit a report to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the release said.

The decision to constitute the committee was taken at an office-bearers’ meeting here on Monday where party national secretary and Odisha in-charge Arun Singh was present.

Singh has alleged rigging, misuse of Government machinery and pumping of money by the BJD for the Kandhamal bypoll and sought a thorough probe into the matter by the Election Commission.

The BJP has also decided to launch an ambitious membership drive from November 1 with an aim to induct 40 lakh members in the party.
