The Congress on Friday came down heavily on the Modi Government at the Centre over the ever rising prices of petroleum products. In a statement, former State Finance Minister Panchanan Knaungo said that because of the anti-people policies pursued by the BJP Government during the last seven years, the price of petrol crossed Rs 100, which is an all-time record.
Similarly, the price of an LPG cylinder now costs Rs 861. Knaungo stated that the prices of petroleum products have almost doubled during the BJP regime. While petrol price increased per cent, LPG cost more than 100per cent. Kanungo asked Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan as to why his Ministry is unable to control the prices of petroleum products, which has spiraling effects on inflation, prices of essential commodities and, above all, livelihood problems of common man.
“Whereas Union Ministers, BJP leaders have a lot to answer to the people on their pro-corporate and Adani-Ambani love, it’s rather unfortunate that the BJD and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik are maintaining a stoic silence over the issue. When the UPA was in power at the Centre, the BJP and the BJD were hitting the on streets over issue every day,” he said.
