Senior BJP leader and former MlA Pratap Chandra Sarangion Saturday slammed the State Government for its proposal to construct an Abhishek-cum-Banquet Hall in the Raj Bhavan premises at a cost of Rs 14 crore on the ground that it would be of little utility.
“I have got to know that the Chief Minister will lay foundation-stone for the proposed building on April 7. While the Government has not been able to bring a full Budget, spending of a whopping public money of Rs 14 crore will be wasted as the hall will be of little use,” said Sarangi.
Stating that while the Government has failed to create adequate irrigation system and provide doctors in hospitals, he wanted to know in whose interest the Chief Minister is going to lay stone for a costly building to come up on a patch of land where there are 86 valuable trees.
He said people have every right to know about the building as it would built with poor taxpayers’ money.
“Only two programmes, Independence Day and Republic Day, are organised every year at the Raj Bhavan. And Ministers’ oath-taking celebration is held once every five years on the open ground. Hence, there is no need of such a luxurious convention hall,” he said and urged people to oppose the move.
