Senior BJP leader Bijay Mohapatra on Monday alleged that the electricity consumers are suffering from a nexus between the State Government and private distribution companies (discoms). Mohapatra questioned why the Government didn’t place its views before the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity (ATE) on hiking of electricity tariff though the State had been served notices three times before.
He said the tribunal had conducted a hearing regarding hike in electricity tariff on September 30 last year on appeal numbers 154, 156 and 157. It’s surprising that the discoms like Nesco, Wesco, Sesco and Southco and Odishs Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) kept their views, but the Government failed to do so. “It shows that the Government has a secret understanding with power discoms,” Mohapatra alleged.
The BJP leader said the Government’s lackadaisical attitude would create problem for the electricity consumers. The consumers would pay more for the fault of the Government, he added.
