BJP Krushak Morcha holds Jail Bharo in K'handi

The Kalahandi district unit of the BJP Krushak Morcha (BKM) staged a Jail Bharo agitation at Bhawanipatna on Wednesday highlighting different issues relating to farmers.

More than five hundred party workers took out a procession from the BJP district party office and went round the town shouting anti-BJD slogans under the leadership of BKM State president Maheswar Sahoo and BKM national vice-president Rama Chandra Panda. Sahoo alleged that instances of farmers’ suicide, use of duplicate fertilisers and distress sale of paddy are increasing day by day due to the inefficiency of the State Government.

Expressing concern over the increasing death of farmers, Panda said the Central and State Governments are fully responsible for this plight of farmers.  The leaders demanded that the State Government provide compensation of Rs 5 lakh for a deceased farmer’s family, a Government job for his son and free education facilities for their grandchildren. All the party workers were arrested while they tried to enter the Collector’s office, but later they were released on personal bonds.
