The Keonjhar BJP on Monday submitted a memorandum to the district Collector, Keonjhar on irregularities in paddy procurement in the district.
At the outset, a huge rally of farmers from different parts of the district, particulaly from Telkoi, was taken out.
They were led by BJP leaders like national vice president BJP Krishak Morcha Maheswar Sahoo. They held a demonstration and meeting before the Collectorate.
The speakers addressing the rally described how farmers were living miserably due to the failure of the district administration to procure the paddy in a systematic way by paying MSP.
They alleged that the middle men were in nexus with the Government officials and exploiting the farmers while the district administration was remaining silent. Sahoo further demanded that all paddy brought to the Mandis be procured and threatened to take to streets if any lapses found.
Former MLA Dhanurjaya Sidhu narrated how middle men were collecting the tokens in the name of Adivasis, while genuine Adivasi farmers were harassed and left out.
Others who spoke on the occasion included Prithraj Kuanar, Saroj Kumar Sahoo and Akhila Kumar Patra.
