BJP holds protest, says BJD now bloodthirsty

The BJP on Sunday held silent protests across the State against egg pelting on Union Ministers allegedly by BJD activists during their visits to Odisha recently.

Besides protesting the egg attack on the car of Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram in Kendrapada on  June 14, the party activists also sought an impartial probe into the recent gangrape and brutal killing of a widow in Kankadahada block of Dhenkanal district.

Party activists and leaders covered their mouths with black tapes and displayed placards while staging the silent protest and dharnas in areas under all the municipalities, Notified Area Councils (NACs) and Zilla Parishad Zones.

The BJP leaders and workers led by Bhubaneswar district president Harekrushana Khuntia on protest against the attacks and the gangrape and murder incident, sat in a silent dharna before the statue of  Deen Dayal Upadhaya statue at the party headquarters here . State vice-president Sameer Mohanty said violence has no place in a democracy.

The BJD goons’ violent attack with police cooperation on the Central Ministers is a danger for democracy. The defeat of BJD in the panchayat elections and the acceptance of the BJP by the people is not acceptable to the BJD and they have become blood thirsty, Mohanty said.

He said some more people were involved in the June-12 incident, but they were not booked by the police.

The BJP leader claimed that some people close to a senior ruling BJD leader of the area were allegedly involved in the brutal gang rape and murder of the 45-year-old widow, but they have been gone scot-free.
