BJP activists led by party State vice president Sameer Mohanty staged a Jal Satyagraha at the Bindusagar pond here on Thursday demanding restoration of the holy water body near the lingaraj Temple.
Holding banners and placards, the activists staged a one-hour protest from 10 am. The party demanded steps to make the Bindusagar pollution-free and restore it immediately.
Mohanty alleged that Rs 3.5 crore was sanctioned to a Pune-based firm to clean the water body, but the project has been left incomplete for reasons best known to the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the State Government.
“We hope that the State Government would take measures to renovate the water body as in its present shape it is hurting the sentiments of large numbers of devotees who throng the lingaraj Temple,” said Mohanty.
