BJP flays police attack on women activists in S'pur

The BJP has strongly condemned the police attack on BJP women activists in Sambalpur on Friday while they were protesting the midnight arrest of women workers of the party on the eve of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s visit to Sambalpur recently.

When the women activists led by BJP Mahila Morcha district president Arnapurna Barik had gone to the local DIG office to give a memorandum after holding a protest meeting, local cops present there attacked them mercilessly. Many of them sustained injuries during the clash with the cops. They were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) and later shifted to a private hospital for treatment.

“Condemning such disgraceful act of the police, the party demands strong action against the police and administrative officials involved in the incident; else, the party will give a befitting reply,” warned party Spokesperson Sajjan Sharma in a Press statement.

Besides Sambalpur, similar protest meeting against increasing atrocities on women were held in Koraput, Rourkela and Baripada.  BJP Mahila Morcha president Simantini Jena, MlA Radharani Panda, Poonam Sahani and former Minister Jay Narayan Mishra were present at the meeting in Sambalpur.
