BJP drive for farm loan waiver

The BJP Krushak Morcha would hold a ‘A fortnight for farmers’ right’ from July 1 to 15 to undertake a signature drive in favour of its demand for waiver of farm loan and disbursement of loan without interest.BJP State vice-president Samir Mohanty informed this at a Press conference here on Saturday.

“During this year’s Akhi Muthi showing celebration, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had stated that his Government has a proposal to waive farm loans. Now farmers are in a quandary as the Chief Minister is averting the loan waiver proposal,” alleged Mohanty.

Stating that States like Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka have announced to waive agriculture loans, Mohanty alleged that while the Narendra Modi Government at the Centre has announced a four-per cent rebate on interest, farmers of Odisha are not getting loans due to callous attitude of the State Government.

He said party activists would reach 50 lakh families in 36,000 booths during the 15-day drive to collect signatures.
