The BJP State Mahila Morcha on Thursday demanded before Governor SC Jamir to take appropriate action against the accused for raping a minor girl of Tigiria. The Morcha leaders handed over a memorandum to the Governor regarding the rising rate of crimes against women and children in the State.
A 14-year mentally-challenged girl was sexually abused by a 45-year-old man, Digambar Pradhan, of the same village in the Tigiria area. The Morcha members alleged that the police are completely inactive in the case in spite of repeated agitations by villagers demanding arrest of the culprit. They also urged the Governor to ask the Government to extend financial help to the family.
“Women in the State have become victims of utter apathy with a complacent administration showing no initiative to ensure them a life of dignity,” said Morcha State president Simantini Jena.
