BJP demands SRMC revival in K'handi

The BJP has demanded revival of the Sardar Rajas Medical College (SRMC) in Kalahandi district though it welcomed the State Government’s announcement of setting up of a medical college at Bhawanipatna with the Vedanta group’s help.

BJP leader and former Minister Pradeep Nayak on Saturday said the so-called gratitude of Kalahandi people to the Chief Minister for the announcement of a medical college is nothing short of a farce. The programme at the Naveen Niwas in this connection was stage-managed, he remarked.

“The announcement on setting up of a Rs 100 crore medical college by the Vedanta group is an attempt of the Government to hide its deficiencies,” he alleged.

Nayak said the BJD Government has always neglected the health service in Kalahandi during the past 16 years.

Earlier, the Government had allotted land and made financial assistance from the Western Odisha Development Council fund for setting up of the Sardar Rajas Medical College in the district, Nayak pointed out.

He said he is surprised as to why the Government did not attempt to revive the Sardar Rajas Medical College as a new medical college would take a long time to be functional.
