BJP demands rehab for B'pur slum dwellers

The BJP Youth wing here led by district president Prabhat Kiran Sadangi on Monday took out a rally and submitted a memorandum to the local Sub-Collector, demanding adequate compensation and provision of Indira Awas houses for the poor slum dwellers of lanjipalli.

Notably, thousands of scheduled caste and poor and homeless workers and rickshaw pullers are staying in temporarily built shelters at lanjipalli slum on the outskirts of Brahmapur city over last many years.

While these poor people had lost their houses in the Phailin and are yet to get compensation from the Government to build permanent houses, they are now facing a threat of eviction as the local administration has launched the drive under the pretext of the widening a road.

However, while driving out these hapless slum dwellers, the Government has not provided them any compensation, nor has it found out an alternative place to relocate them, alleged BJP Yuva Morcha leader Sadangi.

Describing the eviction as inhuman, Sadangi demanded that the Government rehabilitate the slum dwellers permanently in some alternative places and ensure that the school going children of the evicted families are not deprived of education.

Sadangi demanded permanent house under Indira Awas Yojana and financial assistance to each victim family before carrying out the eviction. He warned if the administration failed to provide necessary shelter and assistance to the evicted families, the Yuva Morcha wing would be forced to intensify its agitation in the days ahead to provide justice to the victims.

Among others, BJP district general secretary Sanjay Choudhury, BK Swain, Sangram Padhi, P Panda and Nilanchal Panda, Suresh Chandra Behera and  Radhagovinda Panigrahi were present in the rally.
