BJP demands Manmohan's resignation on graft issues

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers on Saturday staged a dharna in front of the State Assembly demanding resignation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for protecting those involved in corruptions and scandals.

The party workers and leaders led by State president KV Singh Deo handed over a memorandum to the President of India through the Governor demanding Prime Minister’s resignation.

The party leaders said the country is going through serious economic and constitutional crises as a result of the continuing scandals, corruptions and loot of public money by the Congress-led UPA Government. The Prime Minister and the Government are perceived as protecting and saving those involved in these scandals and corruptions. Constitutional bodies and the CBI are openly being misused for protecting those figuring in these scams, they added.

In the memorandum, the party said a blatant attempt is being made to give a clean chit to the Government using Constitutionally-provided institutions such as the JPC and even the CBI, in the 2G and coal allocation scandals which raises serious questions about the Central Government, Parliamentary institutions and the Constitutional principles. The Supreme Court’s recent indictment of the UPA Government and the CBI over vetting the coal report clearly exposes the Government’s flaws, the memorandum said.

“The unconstitutional and undemocratic functioning of the Government and the incidences of grave misuse of Constitutional bodies for covering up their misdeeds are serious,” said Singh Deo.
