Intensifying its protest over the kidnap and murder of five-year-old girl Pari of Jadupur village in Nayagarh, the district unit of the BJP on Wednesday burnt an effigy of Minister Arun Kumar Sahoo at Traffic Chhak here demanding his resignation.
BJP leaders alleged that the prime accused in the case Babuli Nayak is being shielded by the Minister, who is also the Nayagarh MLA, for which police are unable to take action against him.
The leaders also met the district Collector and submitted a memorandum to him in this regard.Besides, members of the BJP State Mahila Morcha under the leadership of its president Smriti Patnaik took out a rally from the party State headquarters in Bhubaneswar to Master Canteen Square demanding immediate arrest of Babuli Nayak and resignation of Minister Sahoo.
Notably, the deceased girl’s father Ashok Sahoo and mother Saudamini had on Tuesday attempted self-immolation outside the State Assembly demanding justice for their daughter.
Alleging police inaction in the case, the couple accused Minister Sahoo of shielding accused Nayak. They claimed that Nayak is a close aide of Sahoo.
