BJP decries BJD 'conspiracy' against former B'pur Mayor

The Brahmapur district wing of BJP on Monday strongly condemned the manipulated police investigation to implicate BJP leader and former city Mayor Shiva Shankar Das in the case of a motor accident at Gosaninugaon on June 22.

Since Das left the ruling BJD and joined the BJP and became BJP candidate for the Brahmapur Assembly constituency, he was consistently apprehending a conspiracy by the BJD to implicate him in criminal cases so as to defame and intimidate him to settle scores which ultimately came true, the BJP leaders alleged.

The BJP submitted a memorandum to the DGP urging him to make an impartial probe himself into the incident. Though it was a simple case of accident in which neither Das nor his vehicle was involved, it has deliberately been manipulated into a case of attempt to murder, the memorandum said.

The memorandum further alleged that the local police have managed to extract a statement from the accused driver by illegally detaining and torturing him for a about a week at different police stations of Brahmapur.

Das has publicly stated that he has neither any connection with the accused driver nor with the vehicle, and the entire exercise of police investigation is a deep-rooted conspiracy hatched by the ruling party to harass and humiliate him in the eyes of the public.

“As responsible political party, we are very much outraged and agonised in such development and, therefore, request you to make an impartial inquiry into the conduct of the local police,” the memorandum said.

The ruling party wants to show that one is a saint as long as he continues in the BJD and once he leaves the party he would be branded as a criminal by misusing police administration, the memorandum said.

BJP district president Bijay Kumar Swain, former Assembly Speaker Rama Chandra Panda and former Ganjam Bar Association president Sisir Kumar Padhi were present at the press meet.
