The State Government should declare Kandhamal as a drought-hit district. This year, Kandhamal, where people mainly depend on cultivation, received only 48 per cent rains, said BJP leader Debnarayan Pradhan at a Press meet on Wednesday. If Government doesn’t consider the demand, the party would start its agitation in the entire district, he warned.
Speaking about the police excesses in the district, party senior leader Kamala Kant Pandey said a couple of Madaguda under Kotagarh block was killed during a Maoist combing operation. He further alleged that the police are harassing people at Bamunigan, Daringbadi and Nuagan. They collect money instead of arresting people engaged in ganja cultivation. The police and the district administration are benefited financially.
