BJP: Decision meant to hoodwink people

Published on:

The BJP on Saturday termed the State Government’s decision to build seven barrages and 22 check-dams downstream the Mahanadi as another move to mislead people of the State ahead of elections.

“In 2011, the State Government had told people through the then Water Resources Secretary that Odisha will not suffer at all even if 100 dams are constructed on Mahanadi. After seven years, the Government has once again announced through the Secretary to construct barrages and dams. It is nothing but a move to hoodwink people ahead of elections,” alleged BJP spokesperson Sajjan Sharma.

Alleging further that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has failed to construct a single irrigation project during the last 18 years, Sharma said the State Government is only making people frightened regarding the Mahanadi water dispute instead of assuring them of a solution.
