The recent incident of “humiliation” to North Orissa University (NOU) Students’ Union president Tushar Nayak by senior BJD leader and former Minister Arun Sahoo has evoked widespread reaction here.
leaders of all political parties, with the exception of the BJD, have condemned the “attitude and act” of Sahoo with some of them taking to the streets on Wednesday and Thursday as a mark of protest.
While the BJP Yuva Morcha and the Youth Congress held massive demonstrations and burnt effigies of Arun Sahoo protesting his “unbecoming and uncalled-for behaviour”, Mayurbhanj Adivasi Students’ Association president Suklal Marandi condemned the incident of Tushar Nayak being subjected to sit-ups by Arun Sahoo in strong terms.
While the BJP demonstration was led by BJYM district president Kumar Mangalam, the Congress agitation was led by district Youth Congress president Rakesh Singh.
Notably, when Tushar Nayak, the duly-elected president of NOU Students’ Union, had gone to Arun Sahoo, who is the BJD observer for Mayurbhanj district, to raise certain issues concerning the student community and the university here on Tuesday, he was allegedly misbehaved and even made to sit down and stand up a number of times without rhyme or reason.
