The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday called for a 12-hour dawn-to-dusk bandh in the undivided Koraput district on Wednesday over the suicide of the Kunduli ‘gangrape’ victim, informed party State general secretary Bhrigu Baxipatra at a news conference here on Tuesday.
The party gave the bandh call from 6 am to 6 pm demanding recommendation by the State Government for a CBI probe into the incident.
The bandh would be observed in the districts of Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Nabarangpur. Shops, schools, colleges and Government and private offices would remain closed; besides, vehicular movement would be stopped, said Baxipatra.
He urged people of these districts to cooperate with BJP activists in making the bandh a grand success. On Monday, when the Kunduli minor Dalit girl killed self at her home, BJP leaders along with hundreds of party workers had staged a rally in the capital city over the incident. While heading towards Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s house Naveen Niwas from Sishu Bhawan Square to gherao it, they were stopped by police. A scuffle ensued between them and the cops, after which around 50 workers of the party were taken into preventive custody.
