BJP, BJD spar over freedom fighter's missing grandson

The incident of missing of late freedom fighter laxmi Indira Panda’s grandson Babula has prompted the BJP to level serious charges against two BJD leaders, accusing them of having a hand in the incident.

BJP MlA Pradeep Purohit alleged that Energy Minister Pranab Prakash Das and BJD spokesperson Rabi Narayan Nanda were behind the missing of Babula.

“The BJD hatched a conspiracy in hiding Babula. It is a pre-planned abduction in which two senior leaders of BJD Pranab Prakash Das and Rabi Narayan Nanda are actively involved in this. We demand verification of their call records,” Purohit alleged at a Press meet.  Now, there is a threat to Babula’s life, he added.

But Nanda said, “The BJP forgot about the safety of the relatives of the freedom fighter after felicitating them. Now, it has pointed fingers at others in a bid to cover up its own mistake. The BJP is habituated in making such baseless statement. I am ready to face any sort of investigation.”

However, it is alleged that Nanda had given `50,000 to the family of Babula which was corroborated by Babula’s grandfather though it was vehemently denied by Nanda.

In another development, the BJD alleged that the Prime Minister felicitated three persons who are not the successors of freedom fighters. Ganjam’s Chakra Bisoyi, Rendo Majhi from Kalahandi and Jayee Rajguru from Puri are such freedom fighters who do not have successors. Some fake people were produced as descendants of the freedom fighters,” claimed the party.

As for the case of Babula, a couple of days ago, his family members had staged a protest in front of the residence of the Jeypore Sub-Collector demanding to trace Babula immediately. The Chief Minister had also instructed the DGP to trace the freedom’s fighter’s grandson soon.

Notably, Babula had accompanied his family members to the Raj Bhavan for felicitation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 16.
