The BJP on Tuesday warned the State Government to procure all paddy stored in the mandis and with farmers; otherwise, the party would stage dharna in front of the State Civil Supplies Corporation office on June 25. Addressing a Press Conference here, BJP State Krushak Morcha president Pradeep Purohit alleged that because of the token and target system, thousands of quintals paddy are left unsold. The miller-ruling party nexus is responsible for this situation. When the Modi Government has increased the Minimum Support Price of paddy to Rs 1,940, the distressed farmers are forced to sell their paddy for Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,200. While quoting the 56-page report of the high-level Central team which visited the State in March for an on-the-spot assessment of paddy procurement process, Purohit said the Regulated Marketing Committees (RMCs) have reduced paddy procurement period set by Government, for which tokens have lapsed and small and medium farmers are suffering.
