Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said his party BJP’s aim was not merely to be in power but to transform India into a socially and economically developed and powerful country in the world.
Union Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari briefed mediapersons about what the Prime Minister told the concluding session of the two-day BJP national executive meeting held here.
“We had witnessed the lowest number of people’s representatives four decades ago. However, party leaders and workers continued fighting against all odds to execute Dindayal Uppadhyaya’s socioeconomic principles over these years. Our objective is not only to be in power but to transform the country into a socially and economically developed nation in the world,” Modi said.
He stressed that his Government focused on three points — Jan Dhan, Van Dhan and Jal Dhan — to achieve the above objective by 2022, the year when India would be celebrating 75 years of its Independence.
“As many as 28 crore bank accounts have been opened by people under the Jan Dhan Yojana in three years’ time, and Rs 66,000 crore has been deposited in these accounts,” said he.
The main objective of the Jan Dhan is to provide economic support to the exploited and deprived so that social and economic equality would be achieved, he said.
Regarding Van Dhan, Modi said the plan is to uplift tribals and preserve and enhance forests, environment and ecology across the country.
As regards Jal Dhan, the Prime Minister said proper use of water for growth of agriculture would help in a sustainable development of the sector and, thereby, farmers’ economic condition would improve.
“We have to make speed-flow water slow and preserve the slow-flow water and use preserved water for farming. We have to see that 70 per cent of the water flowing into sea is checked and utilised for development,” he said.
He said if farmlands are provided irrigation, farmers would never commit suicide.
“Under the Prime Minister Sichan Yojana, the Government has allocated Rs 85,000 crore. This reflects the Government’s seriousness in providing irrigation to farmers,” he said.
The Prime Minister called upon all leaders and workers to involve themselves in the 2022 Mission seriously to achieve the above goals.
