More than 100 BJP activists, along with some senior leaders, were detained by the Commissionerate police on Monday for breaking the security cordon in an attempt to barge into Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s residence Naveen Niwas here in protest against the Kunduli incident.
Raising slogans against Patnaik and demanding his resignation and a CBI probe into the issue, hundreds of the saffron party workers and leaders earlier took out a rally from Ram Mandir Square and marched towards the Naveen Niwas holding party flags, banners and placards. later, despite heavy police presence, the BJP workers led by State vice-president Sameer Mohanty managed to hoodwink the cops by taking an alternative route to the Naveen Niwas by avoiding the main road near Sishu Bhawan Square.
Some of them also managed to reach near Airport Square by travelling in small batches. They had a scuffle with the cops when the latter intercepted them, following which many senior leaders along with scores of supporters were taken into
preventive custody by the police.
However, the Chief Minister was not present during the protest as he had left for the State Secretariat.
