BJP State president Manmohan Samal and Leader of Opposition Jayanaryan Mishra on Wednesday expressed deep grief over the passing away of former Bhubaneswar Mayor and eminent doctor Jagannath Mahapatra.

Mahapatra would be remembered for his works for the development of Bhubaneswar, as a doctor, social activist and politician, said Samal and Mishra.

Pradesh Congress Committee president Sarat Patnaik said he is deeply shocked by the news. During his tenure as Bhubaneswar Mayor, Dr Mahapatra had carried out many developmental works in the capital city. His demise is an irreparable loss as he was a very good organiser, amicable and well-known for his social activities.

Arya Samaj chairman Aryakumar Jnanendra said Mahapatra was a great supporter of the Arya Samaj. For the last 25 years, Vedic Yajnas were held at his residence on Shrikrishna Janmastami.

Pandit Birendra Kumar Panda and Acharya Binod Bihari Das also expressed deep grief over Mahapatra’s demise.
