BJP, BJD have a tacit pact: CPI leader Raja

Communist Party of India (CPI) secretary D Raja on Sunday alleged that the BJP and the BJD have a tacit understanding between them and the latter needs to make the reason behind such a pact public when the saffron party is making all efforts to redefine the ‘Indian Nation’ in the line of the RSS’ notion of Hindutva.

“There was tacit understanding between the BJP and the BJD before elections. It was proved after polls when the BJD announced to support a RS candidate of the BJP. The BJD needs to make public the reason behind such understanding,” Raja said at a Press meet here.

On Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s assertion of providing constructive cooperation to the Central Government, Raja said, “The Centre doesn’t provide support to a State out of pity. In a federal structure, Odisha has all rights to get assistances and all other supports from the Union Government. Is there any notion of destructive support that drives the BJD to provide constructive support,” ridiculed Raja.

He alleged that the BJP has been in efforts to redefine the Indian Nation in the line of the RSS notion of Hindutva or making India a Hindu Country. “The situation is going to be very worse during the second term of the Narendra Modi Government,” he said.

Raja, an MP, alleged that the BJP is pressuring regional parties to come its line by using Cetnral agencies like Enforcement Directorate and CBI. When asked whether the BJD is also being pressurized by the BJP, he said, “You people (media) should find out.”

He termed the ‘one nation, one election’ notion as “unrealistic”, “unconstitutional” and “anti-federal”. “Our party doesn’t support the notion,” he said.

The CPI leader wanted to know why election was not held in the Jammu and Kashmir when the BJP is preaching for ‘one nation, one election’ notion.

Commenting on Modi’s “Sabka Sath Sabka Biswas’ narrative, Raja said, “What is the meaning of such a notion when attacks on minorities are on the rise and farmer suicides are increasing across the country.”

Raja too alleged that the economy of the county has been very slow. There has been negative growth in sectors like industries, MSME and Agriculture, he said.

CPI State Secretary Ashis Kanugo, who shared the dais, however said fear of action on chit fund scam has driven the BJD to have tacit understanding with the BJP.

He slammed the State Government for closure of 966 schools and demanded that all 2,700 acres of land acquired for Posco project in Dhinkia near Paradip be returned to local farmers soon.
