BJD worker's murder: Case registered against Ali MlA

Published on:

Ali police have registered a case against Debendra Sharma, the newly-elected Congress MlA of Ali Assembly segment, for his involvement in BJD supporter Ranjit Nayak’s murder on Monday night at Patrapur market.

Pattamundai SDPO Kedarnath Sahu said the Ali police on Tuesday had detained a couple of persons in the murder case. Deceased Nayak was a BJD worker and hence the police suspect the murder to be fallout of political rivalry.

According to sources, Ranjit had an altercation with Congress supporters Soumya Ranjan Behera and Bikram Behera earlier pertaining to the latter’s exploding crackers near his house. It is alleged that the newly elected Congress MlA hatched a plan with Soumya Ranjan and Bikram to eliminate Ranjit. Soumya Ranjan and Bikram had attacked Ranjit while he was moving alone in his bike at Pattamundai, leading to his death.

The deceased’s father had lodged an FIR at Ali police station on Monday night against MlA Sharma and Soumya Ranjan and Bikram, besides several others.
