The Biju Mahila Janata Dal (BMJD) staged a demonstration in front of the Raj Bhavan here on Friday against the Central Government’s decision to withdraw subsidy on lPG cylinders.
A BMJD delegation also submitted a memorandum to Governor SC Jamir addressed to the President of India.
later speaking to mediapersons, BMJD president Pramila Mallick said, “We submitted a memorandum to the Governor. We hope that the subsidy provided to poor women will continue and the Centre will withdraw its decision to hike the price of lPG by Rs 4 every month. Otherwise, the protest will be intensified in all districts, blocks and wards.”
The BMJD also called for an agitation in front of the offices of all district Collectors on August 8.
In reaction, BJP State secretary lekhasri Samantsinghar said, “Free-of-cost lPG connections are being provided to all poor and BPl families across the country. So, resources are required. By taking into consideration the international prices of oil, it was decided that in coming 10 months the price of lPG cylinder will be hiked by Rs 40 dividing it to Rs 4 every month. I may also mention that the gas price had been slashed by Rs 41 last month. So, why is the BJD not able to calculate the hike of Rs 40 in 10 monthsIJ”
