The BJD has urged to cancel the contract of a thermal power plant of Naveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) and its ash pond proposed in Hirma. A memorandum was submitted to district Collector Saroj Kumar Samal by a fact-finding team of BJD, to cancel these projects keeping in view the increased pollution caused in the locality.
A team under the leadership of BJD Town president Sandeep Awasthy discussed the issue of spillage from power plants, damage of farm land and crops and other problems with the Collector.
Likewise, a proposed thermal power plants at Darlipali of neighbouring Sundargarh district, ashpond in Tileimal panchayat of Laikera Block in Jharsuguda district, construction of an ash pond at Lara in the Chhatisgarh
Kanaktora border by NTPC, proposed ashpond of Ind -Barath Energy Project at Sahajbahal area and proposed new ash pond of OPGC have been demanded to be cancelled by the BJD.
