BJD to raise anti-Centre issues in Assembly

Published on:

The ruling BJD would try to pass the Odisha Police Bill-2015 in the Monsoon Session of the State Assembly beginning on Tuesday as the Bill could not be discussed in the Budget Session though tabled.

To appease the opposition parties, though the BJD has decided to circulate the Bill in Odia language among the legislators, it is likely to face their wrath for not including leader of Opposition in the State Police Security Commission as per provision of the Bill.

The Bill seeks to consolidate the provisions of the Police Act, 1861 and Odisha State Armed Police Act, 1946 in a single legislation for better police administration in the State.

Besides the Police Bill, eight other Bills are likely to be placed, discussed and passed in this session.

The nine Bills are Odisha land Grabbing (Prevention) (Ordinance Promulgation) Bill, Odisha Police Bill, Odisha Value Added Tax (Amendment) Bill, Odisha Apartment Ownership (Amendment) Bill, Odisha Underground Pipeline, Cable and Nullah Bill, Odisha Education (Amendment) Bill, Odisha land Encroachment Prevention (Amendment) Bill, Odisha Municipal Corporation and Odisha Municipal Act (Amendment) Bill.

After emerging from the BJD legislature Party meeting, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, also party president, said matters possible under the purview of law would be discussed in the Assembly.

Though Patnaik did not say anything what transpired in the BJD lP meeting, party source said issues of Central negligence in giving Special Category Status to Odisha, downsizing of Central aids and withdrawal of some projects were discussed. These issues would be raised by Treasury bench members. .

The Monsoon Session is scheduled to sit for eleven days till August 29.
