BJD to protest LPG price hike

Published on:

The BJD women, youth and student wings would take to the streets soon to protest the steep hike in LPG prices and the failure of the Ujjwala scheme.

The hike in LPG price has not only affected the women but the 4.5 crore Odias.

In the last three years, the LPG-cylinder prices have increased by 70%. In 2016-17, the 14.2-kg cylinder price was Rs 549.69; it has now been hiked to Rs 926. This unprecedented price had never happened before, said party leaders Pramila Mallick, Byomkesh Ray and Debi Ranjan Tripathy at a Press meet here on Wednesday.

They further said they would submit a memorandum to the President of India regarding the matter. Besides, the failure of Ujjwala scheme has come to the fore. The scheme which was started with much hype to provide cylinders to the deprived sections has unfortunately failed.
