The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Friday described the Congress’ Odisha Bandh call as “nothing but a cruel joke” for the 4.5 crore people of the State.
BJD national spokesperson and MP Sasmit Patra told reporters here that when Mamita Meher’s father has appealed in folded hands not to politicise the issue of his daughter’s murder, opposition Congress and BJP have no regards for the appeal. He further said that very few Congress workers turned to take part in the bandh as it had no popular support. “This is a BJP-sponsored bandh as the Congress is the B-team of BJP. These movements are not over women issues; rather, it is a fight between various factions of the 136-year-party to capture the position of PCC president,” Dr Patra added.
