As expected, the ruling BJD swept the Ranpur Notified Area Council (NAC) polls in Nayagarh district by winning 13 of the 15 wards as per the results announced on Wednesday. While the Congress and an Independent candidate managed to win the two other seats, the BJP drew a blank. About 80.01 percent voters’ turnout had been recorded in the elections held on Tuesday. The Ranpur NAC polls, which were to have been held along with the elections to eight other urban local bodies (UlBs) on April 7, had to be cancelled after it emerged that there were inaccuracies in the reservation of wards on the basis of caste.
