Kandhamal BJD MP Achyuta Samanta has appreciated the welfare schemes and programmes explained in the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill 2019, which according to him are transgender sensitive, non-stigmatizing and non-discriminatory.

Participating in a discussion on Monday in Lok Sabha, he expressed BJD's stance to support the Bill. With this he congratulated Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot to come with such a considerable and human Bill with solid amendment of its 2018 version for transgender community which is one of the most marginalized communities of the country.

“Most of us find them begging near traffic signals and inside trains, some start complaining about harassments meted out them. This is the reality of many transgender people in India. But the fact we often ignore that directly or indirectly, we as a society are responsible for their condition,” he said.

Lack of access to education and non availability of job forces them to take to begging and other activities, but still amidst all these adversities, there are some transgender persons like Acharya Mahamandaleswar Laxminarayan Tripathy who are brave enough to take their way to the mainstream, achieved their goals, and proved that the transgender people are capable and deserving like other Indians thus breaking the stereotype.

She has struggled lot to get the order from Supreme Court to get even PAN card,

Aadhar Card, Passport and many other things for transgender equalizing with the other people of the society, told Samanta.

Samanta also requested 10 members from the transgender people in the Transgender Council instead of five members.

In Odisha, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has made some provision for the transgender to avail facilities under BPL category like subsidized rice and kerosene etc.

Patnaik has also given opportunity in political position to Meera Parida, a transgender. She leads best social work. Similarly KIIT and KISS is the first organization in the country to provide job to a transgender Sadhana Mishra, he added.
