BJD rallies in three cities today

The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) is all set to show its strength in three mass conventions which will be held at Bhubaneswar, Brahmapur and Sambalpur on the birth anniversary of the legendary Biju Patnaik on Wednesday.

According to the party plan, a youth rally will be held in the city and a women’s rally in Brahmapur, while the third one involving farmers, Kendu leaf pluckers and construction workers will be organised at Sambalpur on the same day.

The rallies would be attended by BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. Party sources said they expect a congregation of over four lakhs in the conventions. The party leaders said the 13-day long ‘Sankha Bajao, Swabhimaan Banchao’ campaign will culminate on Wednesday.

Though the untimely rain created a problem for the party workers to organise the people on the day, Panchayati Raj Minister Kalpataru Das boasted of saying that the rally in Sambalpur will be the biggest rally ever in the Western Odisha.

In Brahmapur, Revenue Minister Surya Narayan Patro said the party is expecting a crowd of one and a-half-lakh women at the convention at Ankuli.

Similarly, BJD leaders Sanjay Dasburma and Arun Sahu said the city rally would witness thousands of BJD workers and supporters across the State. Around 23 platoons of police personnel would be deployed in and around the venue of the youth rally, they informed.
