The BJD MPs on Tuesday created uproar in the Rajya Sabha opposing Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s statement that Andhra Pradesh’s Polavaram irrigation project would get required financial assistance for construction work from the Centre through funding by the NABARD.
The MPs didn’t allow the Minister to finish his statement during the Question Hour.
The MPs wondered that when the Union Water Resources Minister had agreed to a tripartite discussion among Governments of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and the Centre two months ago, then how the Centre decided to fund the project.
later a delegation of the party MPs met Jaitley.
“We met the Finance Minister and requested him to convene a high level meeting among officials of Chhatisgarh, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha to solve the issues pertaining to the project. Jailtley has agreed to this,” said AU Singhdeo.
In December last year, the Centre had said it had released funds to the tune of `345 crore to Andhra Pradesh Government for the construction of the project.
