In the wake of the death of nine newborns at the VSS Medical College Hospital at Burla in a span of less than 24 hours, ruling BJD leaders on Sunday visited the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) at the MKCG Medical College Hospital here and reviewed its functioning.
Rajya Sabha member Renubala Pradhan, Brahmapur MlA Ramesh Chandra Chyaupatnaik and Ganjam district BJD president Subash Moharana advised the hospital authorities to take utmost care on the newborns to prevent any Burla-like tragedy here. They also talked to newborns’ mothers and their relatives.
The SNCUs in the State were set up under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) to provide better healthcare to the newborn babies and to reduce IMR. The SNCU at the MKCG Medical College Hospital was set up in April last year.
