BJD is beyond RTI Act: State info panel

Published on:

The State Information Commission (SIC) on Friday rejected three petitions seeking to bring the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) under the purview of the Right to Information (RTI) Act.

The commission, while disposing of the petitions filed by RTI activist Biswajit Mohanty and two others, said the BJD does not constitute a public authority and, therefore, cannot be subjected to the provisions of the RTI Act. However, the SIC observed that the petitioners can move the Central Information Commission (CIC) in this regard if they so desire.
