BJD holds Burla bandh for party NAC chief's removal

Activists of ruling BJD, led by Burla NAC Vice-Chairman Debendra Pradhan, observed a Burla bandh on Tuesday demanding removal of Burla NAC chairperson Chandrabati Naik.

The allegation against her was that she was elected to the post of the NAC chief reserved for the SC category using forged caste certificate although she belongs to general caste.

The agitators said that several committees have already given reports on her caste. The concerned tehsildar has also annulled Naik’s caste certificates. The DWO of Sambalpur has also lodged an FIR in the Burla police station against her asking for legal action.

Opposition parties apart, the chairperson’s own party BJD also doesn’t stand by her for her “fraudulent practice”.

The situation turned so hostile for her that she had to get a stay order from the Odisha High Court to evade arrest. Still, the workers of BJD are not in a mood to spare her. The bandh paralysed normal life in the  Burla.

However, medical services were not affected. On January 17, the BJD members had not allowed Naik to hold the council meeting. “Our agitation will continue till she is removed from her post that she occupied illegally,” said BJD Burla Town president Sanjay Kumar Gauda.
