'BJD has put State on backtrack'

Published on:

The Congress on Saturday alleged that incidences of corruption, misrule, farmers’ miseries and industrial sluggishness have increased manifold during the 17 years of the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD Government.

“The BJD had promised to transform Odisha into a developed State. But the State has been put on backtracks because of misrule, corruption and neglect of farmers,” former MlA Debasish Pattnaik told reporters here.

Slamming the Government for celebrating completion of three years of its fourth term, Pattnaik said the State has witnessed growing unemployment as the Government failed to give momentum to industrial activities. He said big projects like  Arcellor Mittal and Posco couldn’t be established due to the inefficiency of the Government.

He too lamented saying that 98 per cent houses in rural areas are yet to get piped drinking water and over five lakh people went outside the State in search of work as the Government failed to provide work to them under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
