'BJD Govt only makes promises, sells dreams'

Veteran leader and former MlA Arun Dey on Sunday came down heavily on the Naveen Patnaik Government alleging that it has failed to deliver in all sectors, be it in agriculture, industry, health, education or social security.

“The BJD Government believes in making promises and selling dreams only.  During its rule, highest numbers of beggars and migrant labourers have been created,” Dey told reporters here.

He said while employment has remained dismal, the reserved mines and minerals and other natural resources have been plundered. The irrigation system has slumped to 20 per cent now from 35 per cent in 2000. The water meant for agriculture is being given to the big industries, he alleged.

Similarly, health service in the State is in shambles. Medicines prescribed by Government doctors are hardly available in the Government hospitals and doctors are running private clinics, he alleged.

Dey said it is a shame that the Government has opened liquor shops in villages and urban areas.

He said only four per cent of general caste people have captured 80-85 per cent of Government jobs,  availed 90 per cent of bank loans and 70 per cent of engineering and medical colleges seats and owned 90 per cent of media houses and 100 per cent political  power and privileges.

He said the Government’s performance is reflected in a survey that stated 66 lakh families out of 96 lakh families are below poverty line and 54 per cent of them are landless.
