'BJD Govt has betrayed women in 17 years'

The BJP Mahila Morcha on Sunday resolved to fight against the Naveen Patnaik Government’s alleged failures in providing security and economic justice to women during its 17 years of rule.

Besides, it decided to initiate a drive to ensure that all women get benefits of various welfare schemes and the ‘New Odisha’ drive undertaken by the Narendra Modi Government at the Centre.

“Women have been betrayed during the last 17 years of the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD Government. Women are not safe in the State. We condemn the State Government’s slipshod attitude towards women,” Morcha leaders said.

Alleging that the Mission Shakti programme has failed, the Morcha lamented that the number of Women Self-Help Groups (WSHGs) has drastically decreased from 5,63,338 in February 2015 to 3,07,480 by now due to lack of sponsorship by the State Government.

Similarly, women and children have been suffering from malnutrition for long, it said. As many as 45,536 children are now undernourished in the State, it lamented.

In contrast, the Morcha said as many as 11 lakh women have been provided lPG connections in the State under the Ujjwala Yojana during the first three years of the Modi Government. While the Mission Mangalam Yojana has made women self-reliant, the Mudra Yojana has helped women entrepreneurs a lot. Similarly, poor and tribal women have got banking benefits under the Jan-Dhan Yojana.

The Morcha called upon all women to get united to throw away the Naveen Patnaik Government in the 2019 elections and help the BJP begin an alternative in their better

interest.
