BJD flays Modi's 'promise' on Polavaram

Published on:

The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Friday strongly criticised BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi for giving assurance to Seemandhra farmers that he would complete the Polavaram irrigation project, if voted to power.

Notably, Modi had reportedly made this promise while addressing an addressing an election rally at Bhimavaram in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday.

“The statement of Modi exposed the real intention of the BJP. Both the BJP and the Congress are against Odisha. While we are opposing the project for it would submerge many villages and lands in Malkangiri district, both the BJP and the Congress are fighting with each other to complete the project overlooking the genuine issues of Odisha,” said senior BJD leader Rabi Narayan Nanda.

Two States, Odisha and BJP ruled-Chhattisgarh, have sought Supreme Court’s help in resolving the Polavaram issue.
