In the wake of the recent debacle in the elections to three Notified Area Councils, the ruling BJD is trying hard to regain its position in the by-election for Ward-19 (reserved for women) of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) to be held on May 24.
Manasirani Sundaray on Tuesday filed her nominations for the by-poll before the Bhubaneswar Additional District Magistrate (ADM) here. She filed her nomination papers being accompanied by the city’s three MlAs Bhagirathi Badajena, Ashok Panda and Bijay Mohanty and BMC Mayor Anata Narayan Jena.
The by-election has been necessitated by the recent death of incumbent Sanghamitra Samal. The last date of filing nomination is May 8. Besides Sundaray, an independent candidate also submitted her nominations on the day.
The Congress and the BJP are yet to field their candidates.
