The BJD on Saturday termed party lok Sabha member Baijayant Panda’s opinion on ‘reducing the power of Upper House’ as his own and said party does not have any say on this.
“Baijayant Panda’s opinion on the role of Rajya Sabha is not BJD’s view. It is his own opinion and unlikely to affect the BJD’s ideology. The Rajya Sabha has importance in two layer Parliament system,” said party general secretary Narendra Kumar Swain in a statement.
He said the BJD believes that the Rajya Sabha has stood as a strong pillar in the Indian democracy.
Notably, six Rajya Sabha members have moved a notice alleging breach of privilege and contempt of Rajya Sabha against Panda for his opinion published in a newspaper article recently.
