Despite the call of ‘No court, no vote’ of the bar associations of Sundargarh district, BJD and BJP candidates mainly filed their nomination papers on Monday for UlB polls.
Seven BJD candidates filed nominations in the Rajgangpur Municipality while and BJD candidates purchased nomination papers for all the 11 seats. At least two BJP candidates filed their nominations in the Rajgangpur Municipality while five party candidates purchased papers in the Sundargarh Municipality.
The Congress is yet to commence its nomination filing activities. “We have been keeping a close watch on the development and will decide only at the last minute about filing of nomination,” said DCC president Dusmanta Nayak. “If all other parties join the fray, we will have very little option,” he added.
The BJD, which has already gone ahead with the nomination process in the district, is of the view that the issue of High Court Bench in western Odisha is no more relevant since the Chief Minister has already recommended for establishment of a HC Bench. “We have already rejected the appeal of the bar associations to boycott the poll,” said Biramitrapur BJD president Sanjib Pratap Singh Deo.
