BJD dedicates foundation day to farmers

The ruling BJD on Friday decided to celebrate its 18th foundation day on Saturday in a low-key manner and to dedicate the day to farmers.

The leadership asked its party cadres to highlight and discuss the steps taken by the State Government for welfare of farmers.

Speaking to the media, BJD vice-president Surjya Narayan Patro said that in view of the drought situation and poor state of affairs of farmers the foundation day celebration would be a low-key affair.

Notably, after demise of former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik, the BJD was constituted as a regional force on December 26, 1997.

“The foundation day will be celebrated at the headquarters of organisational districts tomorrow. Party activists, supporters, MlAs and Ministers will participate in the functions and discuss the steps taken by the State Government for betterment of the farmers,” said Patro, adding that the party would also highlight the “negligence” of the Centre to the State.

At the party State headquarters here, the day would be observed by holding a blood donation camp, which would be inaugurated by party president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, said a party spokesman.
