The miscreants involved in the murder of Councillor laxmidutta Pradhan have been identified, said DGP Rajendra Prasad Sharma here on Sunday.
It is suspected that Pradhan was killed over past enmity while a detailed probe in connection with the incident is on, he informed.
“Three special teams led by the Ganjam SP have been formed to nab the miscreants who are absconding after committing the crime,” said Dr Sharma.
According to the DGP, the miscreants had fled from the spot after hacking the Councillor to death outside his residence at lIC Colony in Chhatrapur at around 1 pm on Saturday. Police have seized some swords used in the murder and motorbikes from the spot.
Meanwhile, the BJD and BJP were engaged in a war of words over Pradhan’s murder. Minister from the district Surjya Narayan Patro blamed the BJP for the incident.
Some Communist Party supporters, who joined the BJP recently during the visit of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to the district, are involved in Pradhan’s murder, Patro alleged.
However, the BJP alleged that the incident was fallout of the intraparty squabble in the BJD.
