Tension prevailed at the BJB Autonomous College campus here on Thursday following a violent clash between inmates of two hostels.
As many as 15 students sustained injuries in the clash and were admitted to a hospital. The clash broke out between the inmates of Kharavela Hostel and Ambedkar Hostel over an old enmity.
Some senior students of Kharavela Hostel allegedly entered the Ambedkar Hostel and attacked junior students on Thursday afternoon. The intruders also allegedly ransacked hostel property including furniture, utensils and window glasses. “A few days ago, some senior students of Kharavela Hostel dragged two of our inmates out of the hostel. One of them is differently-abled. They thrashed them and passed casteist remarks,” alleged an inmate of Ambedkar Hostel.
“They were rescued by the other inmates after one of the victims managed to call us. It however, did not go down well with the senior inmates of Kharavela Hostel, who came back in a mood to take revenge and attacked us unprovoked,” he claimed. Many inmates of Ambedkar Hostel also alleged they too were attacked by Kharavela Hostel inmates though they had no involvement in the earlier incident.Police forces were deployed in the campus following the incident to maintain law and order.
“All the students have been ordered to vacate the hostel as repair works will be undertaken. An inquiry has been ordered into the incident ,” the Principal said.
